Functional Motor Recovery: SCI Rehab - June 1, 2019

This course (4 hr) will review spinal cord injuries (SCI) and facilitation of motor recovery and functional outcomes. Lecture will include a summary of neuroplasticity and review of the ASIA scale. Education will include an overview of special considerations when treating SCI across the continuum of care, identification of appropriate intensities needed to facilitate motor recovery, use of technology to improve motor outcomes, and interventions across the continuum of care.
Rehab principles will be covered associated with different types of technology including, body weight supported treadmill training (BWSTT), NMES, FES, and FES cycle. Presenters will provide education on each different type of technology including application, precautions and contraindications, and pathway by which each works.
As practitioners we know every patient’s goal is to return to walking and therefore time will be spent discussing best practices for gait training. Therapists will leave this course with treatment ideas for all levels of SCI, across all treatment settings.
This Course is appropriate for PTs and PTAs.
